Newport School District – Back-to-School Events & Information 2025

Thursday, August 7 – New & Returning Student Registration Opens in Skyward (required for all families)
Monday, August 11 – SHMS & NHS Office secretaries return, school offices open (8:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Mon–Fri)
Wednesday, August 14 – Stratton Office reopens for the school year — call (509) 447-0656
Wednesday, August 20 – 10th–12th Grade Schedule Changes (12:00–3:00 PM)
Thursday, August 21 – 10th–12th Grade Schedule Changes (11:00 AM–2:00 PM)
Friday, August 22 – 10th–12th Grade Schedule Changes (11:00 AM–2:00 PM)

For Stratton Elementary:

Meet the Teacher/Classroom Visit – Check your mailed August 1 letter for your assigned conference time.
- If the time doesn’t work, call Stratton at (509) 447-0656 to reschedule.

For SHMS:

Parent Conferences – Walk-in to one session (8:00 AM, 11:30 AM, or 2:00 PM).
- Each session lasts 90 minutes–2 hours with the same format/content.
- Includes meeting teachers, reviewing norms & syllabi, learning about PTO, and completing back-to-school tasks.
- Starts in the gym (10–15 min), rotates through classrooms (10–15 min each), ends with 30 min for athletics, Canvas, PTO, and questions.
- Moving from a 7-period day to a 5-period day, with 60-minute instructional periods plus a daily 20-minute advisory/elective.

For NHS:

Districtwide:

Open House – 4:00–6:30 PM
- Stratton: Visit classrooms, meet staff.
- SHMS: Students receive schedules, lockers, and meet teachers.
- NHS: All 9th–12th grade teachers available in classrooms to share course info.

Community Wellness/Health Fair – 3:00–6:00 PM at Stratton Elementary bus loop. Please click here to see flyer.
Meet the Griz – 6:00–7:30 PM at Ellersick Field (Meet student athletes, enjoy free hotdog dinner, and play kid-friendly games).
Note: No school this day for students (Teacher Professional Development).
