About Us

Our School District

The Newport School district is located just 45 miles northeast of Spokane, Washington, and serves approximately 1100 students. Stratton Elementary serves students in grades PK-4; Sadie Halstead Middle Schools serves students in grades 5-8; and Newport High School serves 9-12th grade students. In addition, the district offers two alternative programs, the Pend Oreille River School and Home Link. Our students are served by approximately 90 certificated and 70 classified staff members, each dedicated to educational excellence. We are committed to high quality student achievement, and work hard to build strong local support of and for our schools.

Our Community

The district and town of Newport are located on the beautiful Pend Oreille River at the boundary between Washington and Idaho. Newport has a population of over 2,400 residents and serves as the county seat of Pend Oreille County. It is a full service community and includes a hospital, assisted living community, several banks, fast food and regular restaurants, and many other services. The larger area abounds with pristine lakes and rivers, scenic mountain views, miles of verdant forest land and recreational opportunities of all types. Our community offers an excellent quality of life with all of the advantages of living in a small town and rural area, yet is close enough to Spokane to access exceptional higher education advantages, employment opportunities, and cultural amenities.
