NHS Griz Newport High School

    Support, Educate, and Inspire….

    Every Griz, Every Day

  • A note of ENCOURAGEMENT from Coach Pomante:

First and foremost I want to say my thoughts and concerns are with those who are in need.  We are all aware that the needs are numerous and the answers at this point are few.

On an encouraging note, in our last week of school we started our 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning workouts. This program is open to all our students who are willing to work together, work hard and have an interest in improving mentally and physically.  Six years ago we would have 3-6 students in attendance. During the first week of the 2020 spring workouts on Tuesday there were 68 students, Wednesday we saw 64 and on Thursday there were 72 in attendance. Over those three days we saw 90 different students at least once ranging from 6th graders to seniors.  What a positive testament to the work ethic many of our students have.

During this time let me encourage you to work out, continue to grow in your academics and find a way to support others.  Continue to grow mentally, physically and spiritually. There are workouts posted through our school website or available in hard copy through our office.  Stay tough, stay fit.
