Preserve and modernize the 45-year-old Newport High School (Estimated Local Cost $46.3M / Estimated State Assistance: $17.7M)
Recommended Improvements:
- Replace aged HVAC units with energy efficient systems
- Replace failing roof
- Improve safety and security
- Renovate and improve the original library, commons, stage and band areas
- Significant upgrades to career and technical spaces to increase hands-on learning and industry preparation
- Renovate instructional classrooms with energy efficient lights, durable finishes and necessary classroom technology
- Modernize and upgrade science labs and associated spaces
- Improve existing main gym with new acoustic panels and ceiling, renovate original locker rooms
- Enlarge student health, career guidance and office support spaces
- Construct an auxiliary gym and associated spaces to address student and community demand
- Improve parking lot and plaza areas with new asphalt, ADA pathways, and lighting
- Improve outdoor practice areas and grass playfields
