Pend Oreille River School
Welcome to Pend Oreille River School (PORS), the alternative high school for Newport School District. PORS serves students in Pend Oreille County. We offer two sessions Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 11:00 am and 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.
PORS provides a calm, helpful learning environment where students can work at their own pace on computer-based classes. Individual help is available from a teacher and a paraprofessional. Students can move around freely in the classroom, get a snack in the kitchen, or use the bathroom when needed. PORS provides a "wrap-around" program where community professionals are scheduled to serve our students each month. Support services includes the high school counselor, a career counselor, a visiting nurse, and other individuals who will provide training in a number of key areas like finances, health and fitness, etc. Our goal is to help students feel at ease, welcomed, and successful as they work towards graduation and prepare for the future.
